Selong Belanak Beach is a sandy white beach in Lombok. It has a bow-shaped coastline, with a green hill on the corner and a rocky islet that can be seen in the distance. Situated not far from other popular sites, the beach is much less cramped with tourists. It’s more a suitable option for those who seek a restful spot to relax.

Selong Belanak Beach has a stunning view of turquoise clear water. It is easy to swim here because the tide is not too harsh. This beach is also safe for children because no sharp corals around the shore. Children can play in the water without risk of getting exposed to the hazard. The downside is, Selong Belanak is not suitable for snorkeling because there’s not much sea life to see.

There is no entrance fee to enter Selong Belanak Beach. However, tourists will have to pay Rp10.000 for parking upfront. It is also possible to rent a surfboard for about Rp50,000/day.

Selong Belanak Beach Opening Hours

The beach is open 24 hours. However, most restaurants and warungs on the beach are open from 7 AM to 10 PM. To see the iconic water buffalos, it is best to visit the beach in the afternoon after 3 PM. The beach wave here is suitable for surfing all year round. And there are plenty of surf schools on the beach. However, most only have 2 sessions of surfing lessons in a day, so better to book the time wisely.

It is also recommended to visit the northern part of the beach to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The southern part of the beach is usually busy with fishermen’s activities.

Surfing

The waves in Selong Belanak Beach are quite mild, which is ideal for a first-time surfer. Many people come here to take surfing lessons. The fee for a two-hour surfing session is about Rp300.000, including a surfboard and instructor. The lesson is available from beginner to advance level.

For advanced level, surfers may need to take a boat for about 10 minutes to reach the deeper part of the sea, even to the neighboring beach, such as Mawi Beach.

Tourists can rent the surfboard from rental shops nearby. However, beware of scammers who rent a surfboard with bad quality. To avoid getting ripped off, it is recommended to book from a trusted rental shop or surf bar elsewhere. Most of them rent their surfboard for Rp50,000 a day.

Relaxing on Sunbed

After catching the waves, tourists can have a restful afternoon under the shade. There are not many natural shades such as palm or coconut trees here, so better to bring a hat or rent a beach umbrella.

There is a row of iconic blue sunbeds with parasols rolled out across the beach. The fee for a pair of sunbeds is Rp50.000 including a small table. Plenty of warungs nearby, so order some refreshments like coconut water and snacks to restore energy.

Seeing Water Buffalos

Besides the sunset view, Selong Belanak Beach is famously known for its crossing-water buffalos. Around 3 to 5 PM, there would be a group of water buffalo passing across the beach to get back to their pastures.

This daily farmer routine creates authentic imagery of the Selong Belanak shoreline. Many photo shoots are taken from here with the water buffalo as the background. However, the water buffalo doesn’t appear every day and only during the low tide.

Trying Grilled Fish

A beach vacation is incomplete without trying fresh seafood! Many food stalls in this area have seafood menu options and one of the most recommended ones is a fresh grilled fish. Most of the fish are bought right after fishermen catch them from the sea. How can it be fresher than that?

Nearest Tourist Spot

One of the nearest beaches from here is Mawi Beach. The beach is a perfect site for advanced surfing. Many classes near Selong Belanak Beach head to Mawi for their surfing session as well. It is located about 6km to the south of Selong Belanak Beach.

On the main road to Selong Belanak Beach, tourists might come across Selong Viewpoint. From the edge of the cliff, tourists can see an overlooking view of Selong Belanak Beach and the surrounding area. The panorama from Selong Viewpoint is incredible, especially when the hills are fully covered in green.

Facilities

There are not many facilities here yet. Only toilets and a changing room are available, with a fee of Rp5.000 to use the facility. Plenty of warungs and food stalls in the beach area, selling drinks and meals.

How To Get To Selong Belanak Beach

The beach is only a short walk distance from the main road. It is more convenient to bring a private vehicle than ride an online taxi, especially if there’s a plan to visit some neighboring beaches. Rent a scooter from the main city for Rp75.000 or a car for Rp450.000.

Selong Belanak Beach is located 35 minutes away from Kuta Beach. From Jl Pariwisata Pantai Kuta main road, head to Jl Datuk Lopan to reach the main road Jl. Selong Belanak – Kuta. Along the way, there are plenty of beaches and tourist attractions.

Selong Belanak Beach is 1 hour from Mataram City or 30 30-minute distance from Lombok International Airport. The route is easy to follow as long as staying on the main road of Jl Bypass Bandara Int. Lombok to Jl. Selong Belanak.
