People have different ways of spending holidays. Some like to be in the crowd, while others prefer serene places. For people who like the second one, going to a lake might be the best choice. Situ Gunung is a man-made lake in Sukabumi, West Java. People come here to enjoy the view, the atmosphere, and the tranquility it offers.

Situ Gunung lies in Gunung Gede-Pangrango National Park area. Pine forest surrounds the lake. So, there is no doubt that Situ Gunung is a fresh, cool place. And, being in a national park guarantees its composure.

The charm here is not only the lake. Situ Gunung has a suspension bridge. It is the longest one in Southeast Asia. If it’s not enough, there are two waterfalls near the spot. Moreover, the management also set up camping grounds, outbound facilities, and interesting photo spots to meet all the healing needs.

Situ Gunung Entrance Fee

The entrance fee to the Situ Gunung area for international tourists is Rp165.000 on weekdays and Rp240.000 on weekends. While for students with valid id cards is Rp115.000 on weekdays and Rp165.000 on weekends. Tickets don’t include activities, tourists will have to buy another package to explore the area.

There are a few packages for different tracks to explore the entire attractions. The easiest and shorter trail is about 1.5 km and costs Rp100.000. This package includes a return trip shuttle and free welcome drinks and snacks in restaurants. The yellow and red packages are 2.5 and 3.7 km trails without shuttle service. The yellow package cost Rp75.000 and the red one is Rp50.000.

Situ Gunung Opening Hours

The ticket counter opens from 7 AM to 4 PM every day. For visitors who wish to spend a night here. There are several kinds of accommodations to choose from. From the camping ground, and glamping site to the bungalow that starts from Rp650.000 for 2 people.

Lake

Situ Gunung situates at an elevation of 850-m above sea level. After entering the area, a 1-km walk is what it takes to get to the lake. The road to the area is relatively slope and easy to access by motor vehicles. However, the road will elevate at some points. And, rain falls pretty often in this area. It would be foggy, which will shorten the range of vision.

The lake is about 200 meters or about a 10-minute walk from the parking lot. There is a wide, stony road that leads to the lake, then, visitors shall climb down to reach the shore. The landscape presents an exotic view with surrounding hills and pine forests.

The calming beautiful, fresh atmosphere could completely mesmerize visitors with birds tweeting sound. Clearwater adds to the natural beauty as if calling everyone to feel its coolness. If enjoying the lake from the shore is not enough, visitors can explore the lake by canoeing.

Situ Gunung Suspension Bridge

One of the most exciting spots at Situ Gunung is the suspension bridge. The longest bridge in Southeast Asia stretches 245-m long. It stands at 150-m high from the ground. The bridge can accommodate a maximum capacity of 44 people in one crossing.

Walking on the bridge will pump adrenaline. Yes, everyone will get a safety harness at the entrance. And, there will be staff on guard to guarantee a safe landing on the other side. Nevertheless, the bridge will shake everyone during the crossing. It’s as if going to throw people down.

However, the thrill will pay off. The bridge’s point of interest presents breathtaking views. Guests will get to see the green scenery below. And, crossing the bridge will lead visitors to the next attraction, the waterfalls.

Sawer Waterfall

There are 2 waterfalls near Situ Gunung, Curug Sawer, and Curug Cimanaracun. Curug Sawer is more prominent for it’s adjacent to the camping ground. After hopping down off the bridge, it is a 10-15 minute walk to get here. The road is carved into steps here and there to adjust the contour. So, visitors will have to climb up or down along the way.

The waterfall is about 35 meters high. Discharging water to the small pond below creates splashes, making the surrounding air fresher. In the past, people are allowed to swim in the waterfall pool. But now, tourists are only allowed to dip and swim in the river stream below. The management also built a platform at the pond’s side for visitors to take photos.

Camping

Want a bit of adventure? Try outbound facilities the management provides. There are high ropes and flying foxes for those who enjoy a little up over the ground. Or, river tubing will get visitors wet exploring the water. Canoeing on the lake is also a great activity to cherish the serenity. These additional activities range from Rp20.000 to Rp25.000.

Several camping grounds are also available for visitors wanting to stay over the night. Visitors may choose to sleep in a tent or lodging available there. Both of which have extraordinary night views. The tents line on the ground near the lake. While lodgings stand near Curug Sawer. The lodging cost starts from Rp350.000. While the tent is way more affordable.

All of what Situ Gunung has to offer is definitely photogenic. Luscious pine forest, clear lake, and graceful waterfall are extraordinary backdrops for pictures. In addition, the long suspension bridge, the colorful line of tents, or even the hanging rattan swing, Keranjang Sultan, will make unique photo background.

Fishing & Mountain Scenery

Being at 850-m above sea level, rain falls pretty often here. Also, it is cold, especially during the night. Bearing these in mind, visitors may want to bring a raincoat and jacket or sweater. For guests fond of fishing, the fishing spot is located at the lake. The premises are open all day long and present great sunrise and sunset. Be here early in the morning or in the afternoon.

To get the best experience and the magnificent mountain scenery, it’s best to visit Situ Gunung during summer. And make sure to check the weathercast. Since the place is children-friendly, don’t be here during the school holidays. A crowded place will not suit those who seek tranquility.

Facilities

With various sorts of attractions, Situ Gunung Suspension Bridge has complete supporting facilities. Both natural and man-made attractions are amazing objects for photography. To support the activities, the management developed a sufficient parking lot, camping ground, villa, restaurants, food stalls, and toilets.

There is even a praying room and an information center. Along with several types of accommodation from camping sites, and homestay to villas. Bathrooms with a hot shower are available as well.

How To Get To Situ Gunung

Situ Gunung and the suspension bridge are 16 km to the north of Sukabumi downtown. If planning to stay for the night, take public transportation. Because there will be no one guarding the parking lot at night. From Paledang station in Bogor, take the train to Cisaat station, Sukabumi. The train fare will cost Rp45.000 for an economy class and Rp80.000 for the executive class.

The train leaves Bogor 3 times, 08:30 AM, 02:30 PM, and 8 PM. The trip will take 2 hours. From Cisaat station, continue the journey by public van and stop at Cisaat Police Station. The fare is about Rp6.000. Then continue by taking a red public van to the Situ Gunung Suspension bridge which costs about Rp15.000.

Another way, try to rent a public van from Cisaat station to the premises. The rent may cost Rp80.000 to Rp100.000. It depends on bargaining skills. The perk is the journey will be a lot faster, 30 minutes without traffic. And the driver will not take another passenger.
