The Cosmology Philosophy

Sanga Mandala is the concept of the royal palace design. And it’s everywhere in Bali, something tourists will notice. Almost every home even the small one uses the design. The cosmology orientation is the absolute reference in Balinese traditional architecture.

The philosophy is passing down from generation to generation. It rules every zone and layout of the building. Some activities that consider a primary or vital place will be placed in a quiet area. Ubud Palace adopts this concept, it divides the palace into 9 different zones with different functions.

Ubud Palace Zone

Anak Saji or the front yard zone lies in the southwest corner of the palace. It’s surrounded by a 1-meter thick border wall and the place of preparation. Before the guests could enter the royal palace.

The yard was also used as a stage where the Royals enjoy the dance performance back then. Today, the yard still has the same task. As the palace host the traditional dance performance every night. The palace yard is still the stage where guests can enjoy the Balinese dance performance.

Pewaregan – The place is also known previously as the king’s kitchen. The entire process of preparing a dish for the royals family is happening right there. While Lumbung is the place where they keep food and as rice storage.

Rangki is the zone where King welcomes his guest. It also a hall where an important meeting takes place. While in the north zone there is Saren Agung. It’s where the King’s wife’s lived.

Saren Kangin & Saren Kauh is on the east side of the palace. It used as the King’s family residence. There are 2 buildings in this zone and one of the buildings is the family temple. Pamerajan Agung is the holiest zone in Ubud palace. The holy building used to honor the forefather of King’s Ubud family member.
